How often should we replace our firewall and switches?

Firewalls usually go end-of-life every 5–7 years, sometimes sooner if the manufacturer drops support for security signature updates. Switches last longer, typically 8–10 years, though Wi-Fi standards advance faster (Wi-Fi 6, Wi-Fi 6E, Wi-Fi 7), so a Wi-Fi refresh every 5 years is reasonable to keep up with modern device speeds.

Do we need separate guest Wi-Fi?

Yes, always. Guest devices should be on a separate VLAN with no access to your internal network, only the internet. This is a basic security control that's free to enable and prevents a visitor's compromised phone from being able to reach your servers, file shares, or printers.

What's the right Wi-Fi setup for a multi-office business?

Cloud-managed access points (Meraki, Ubiquiti, Aruba InstantOn) so all offices show up in one dashboard. Same SSID and password across locations so team members roam between sites without reconnecting. RADIUS authentication if you have an Active Directory or Azure AD setup so revoking a person's access actually works.

How do you handle network monitoring? What does "monitoring" actually mean?

We deploy monitoring agents that report device status, link utilization, error rates, and uptime in near-real-time. Alerts fire to our team when a firewall goes offline, a switch port starts flapping, internet drops, or Wi-Fi coverage degrades. Most issues are fixed before users notice.

Can you take over a network designed by someone else?

Yes, that's the norm, actually. The first step is a documentation pass so we know what's actually deployed (configurations, IPs, VLAN assignments, credentials). Then we identify gaps and risks (an unsupported firmware version, an exposed management port, an unsupported device on the network) and present a remediation plan. Takeover usually takes 30–60 days to a stable, fully-documented state.
