What to Look for When Making Your Next Upgrade

What will the office of tomorrow look like? We start here because it’s a question we think a lot of business owners are asking themselves during these uncertain times. Will they go back to the way they were? Will working from home become a new norm, even if only for a few days out of the week? How will the tools of doing business change?

It can seem overwhelming, for sure. But, as always, we’re to help.

The very first step is making sure you are using the right tools to maximize your returns. Afterall, business can only move as fast as the tools we use to conduct it. And in today’s modern office, there is no more important tool available than the laptop. It’s been that way for some time now, and it’s going to be that way for a long time to come.

Choosing the right laptop for your business is about much more than finding the cheapest deals online – it’s about quality of outcome. You wouldn’t want to tear down a home with a sledgehammer, if you’ve got access to a bulldozer (we work in I.T., and assume this analogy makes sense).

So, it should come as no surprise that we stand by the need to conduct business from business laptops. Why? What makes our selection of business laptops so much better than the ones found in the sales-bin at your local big box?

Well, the answer is partly in the framing of the question.

1. Business laptops are built stronger, using composite materials instead of cheap plastics. They’re meant to last years under 8+ hours-a-day working conditions, not months. Consumer laptops are designed to be disposable, and replaced far more frequently.

2. Business laptops are more secure, using biometrics like fingerprint scanners and facial recognition in order to gain access, along with dedicated security chips that prevent access to sensitive hardware. Consumer laptops often come pre-loaded with bloatware designed to sell user-consumer information to the highest bidder. Not to mention, sensitive hardware, like a user’s hard drive, are meant to be easily accessed and therefore, more easily compromised.

3. Business laptops are faster, and designed to run all day at top speeds. Business laptops generally have better parts where it matters – such as faster processors, better video cards, state of the art M.2 solid state drives, and more RAM. Some consumer laptops are built to look like sport cars, while often driving like lemons. If a user is waiting for their computer to catch up to them before they can move on, that computer is too slow to do business.

4. Business laptops are customizable, so you only spend money on the parts and features that matter to your business. 4k screens are nice, for example, but maybe not as important as a better processor and faster response times. It’s all about choice. Consumer laptops are generally built for light use – like word-processing and browsing online, or they’re built for heavy gaming use and a teenage market (p.s. you can’t be taken seriously if it looks like it’s going to transform into a Decepticon and fly away). Business laptops have also never looked better, offering both mature aesthetics and power.

The bottom line, time equals money. Dropped Zoom calls equals money. Slow load times, equals money. Having your security compromised and data stolen, well, that equals a lot of money.

The office of tomorrow is evolving as we speak, so it goes without saying, your most important tool for doing business needs to evolve with it. We have access to the best our partners and vendors have to offer, and are always negotiating and looking for deals on behalf of our clients.
